Ojai Collects the Holidays

Free Exhibition Reception

November 21, 5 - 7 pm during 3rd Friday

This exhibition highlights 24 holiday-related collections belong to Valley residents, plus one from the Museum’s permanent collection.

A holiday-related collection is often, but not always, a type of decoration. For example, heart-shaped items for Valentine’s Day. Or decorative eggs that are displayed for Easter. Other collections are souvenirs or promotional materials for a more obscure holiday

From Valentine’s Day to Christmas, many collections highlight traditional holidays. Others, such as World Pinhole Camera Day, International Peace Day, or Ojai Day, are more obscure, lesser known holidays. There is even a made-up holiday celebrated annually by a local family included.

Celebrating holidays give form and ritual to your year. They make life a little more fun.

There are many more holidays than you think. Every day of the year has many National or International designated holidays. For example, November 6 (the day the exhibit opened) is National Nacho Day, National Basketball Day, National Men Make Dinner Day, and National Ladies Learn Coding Day, among other designations.

We hope you’ll enjoy this exhibition and that it might inspire you to celebrate more lesser-known or minor holidays.

Thank you to these celebrants for sharing their unique collections:
