Louis Sandhaus will present “A Happy Medium: A short, fun history of motion graphics in California, 1936–1986.”

From Oskar Fischinger’s dazzling experimental animations to Douglas Trumbull’s trippy 2001: A Space Odyssey’s Stargate sequence to psychedelic light shows, music videos, commercials, film and TV titles to the spectacular video arcade games, motion graphics has had an outsized role in California pop culture and art. Join us for a frolicking evening of screen-based delights with Louise Sandhaus, author of the book Earthquakes, Mudslides, Fires & Riots: California and Graphic Design 1936—1986.

Louise is a professor at the California Institute of the Arts and is principal of Louise Sandhaus Design.

Local artist Dennis Shives will be here for a Town Talk. Dennis works in numerous mediums but instills a bit of magic and whimsy into everything he does. Magic wands and fanciful holders by Dennis are currently on view in the museum.

Enter the Carved Pumpkin Contest by carving your pumpkin at home and bringing it with you to the Bash. Attendees will vote for their favorite pumpkin.

Ojai's Mystique: Paintings by 21 Nationally Renowned Artists will feature large and small-scale paintings of the Ojai Valley. This special exhibition by some of today’s most notable landscape painters will be on view from October 20, 2023 through February 4, 2024.
