Left Brain, Right Brain

Painting portraits can be a conundrum. Usually my left brain takes control first and I analyze the exact contour of the cheekbone and try to make the resemblance perfect. But then my right brain kicks in and urges me to let go and paint what’s behind the face: be it a moxie attitude or a fragile demeanor. “Left Brain, Right Brain” speaks to this constant push-pull in one’s brain - being accurate or being creative - the dichotomy realized through a solid slash of blue on my subject.
