Donna Granata

Picture
Donna Granata started as a painter but now works primarily in photography.

Granata graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography. She also has a Masters of Arts degree from the USC Annenberg school of Communication and Journalism.

She has a passion for documenting contemporary artists. In 1994 she founded Focus on the Masters (FOTM). Since then she has served as the non-profit organization's Executive Director. Focus on the Masters has a unique mission: to highlight the role of art in society by focusing on accomplished contemporary artists. FOTM offers educational programs to students. But their primary focus is documenting Ventura County artists. Granta takes photographic portraits of each artist FOTM documents. Audio and video interviews along with biographical information round out the impressive archive.

Granta is also an educator who was the Elderhostel International 2005 Teacher of the Year. She received the Lifetime Achievement in Art award by the City of Ojai in 2011.

Some of Granta's artist portraits are housed in the Smithsonian's Archive of American Artists. Her images are also part of the collection of the George Eastman Museum.

Granata is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Ojai Valley Museum.

This exhibition highlights Donna Granata’s portraits of some of the Ojai Valley’s artists that have passed away. Two of the artists are photographers whose work is featured in this show. Granata’s passion for artistry and history will leave an indelible legacy through her FOTM archive.
