When life feels overwhelming I find great comfort in nature and in discovering and creating patterns. In creating this piece, I wanted to reflect some of the complexities of these recent times, holding darkness and light, loss and discovery. I also hoped to achieve some of the soothing satisfaction I find in contemplating a patterned rug, for example, where one’s eye is drawn along pathways and can explore shapes, lines, and relationships. The natural elements in this piece were given to me by others, and so for me this piece also holds a sense of shared appreciation and community.
